Hiring Process
When people begin responding to your newspaper advertisement with phone inquiries use
the phone screening questions or combine your own devised list.
If someone meets your initial requirements set up an interview. Remember you need some
time to call references and begin processing the background inquiry. Request the applicant
to bring the references to the interview. Take copies of the Application, Job Description,
Work Schedule, Task List, Personal Profile and Contract Agreement to give to the applicant
at the interview.
- Take your in-person interview questions
- Ask those and any others that seem to fit your situation.
- Ask the person if they are still interested in the job
- If they are, let them know if you are still considering them at this point. Be sure and
indicate that the references need to be called and the background still needs to be done
before making a commitment
- Have the applicant give you references and fill out the Background Inquiry at the time
of this initial interview.
- Be clear about the start date and let them know when you need the application returned.
- Call the references.
- After calling references and initiating the background inquiry call the person to see if
they are still interested if you are still considering them for the job.
- If you both are then suggest an interview in your home.
- If necessary have the provider go through some of the tasks with you, such as
transferring you in and out of your wheelchair or what ever it is you need clear that they
will be able to perform. It may involve the PA driving your vehicle.
- Go over the job information again and make sure it is clear what all the job entails.
- If this provider will be paid through state programs the provider will need to contact
DSHS representative, your casemanager, and sign contracts to enable DSHS to make payment
on your behalf.
- Give the potential PAS the appropriate number, name and information they need.
- Call your Casemanager and alert them to the person who will be calling for an
appointment.
