Reference Checking
When you call the references the potential PA has given, ask pertinent questions to get
some honest information about the applicant's abilities, personality and qualities.
If it's a personal reference:
- Give the reference a brief description of your position.
- Ask what is the references relationship to the applicant?
- How long has the reference known the applicant?
- In the opinion of the reference, is the applicant trustworthy, physically, financially,
property wise?
- Ask the reference if they would want the applicant working for them under the same
circumstances?
- Ask the reference if there are any outstanding things about the applicant, either
positive or negative, they think would be helpful to you to know before hiring the
applicant for this job?
If it's an employer reference:
- How long was the person employed?
- Was the applicant dependable?
- What about absenteeism?
- Did the person deal with money on the job?
- Do you consider this person honest?
- How well did the person take supervision and criticism?
- Can the person work independently?
- How was the rapport with other employees and supervisors?
- Please describe the ex-employee's personality?
- What was his/her reaction to stress?
- Why were they terminated?
- Would you rehire?
